This project arms to prevent gentrification from destroying cultural traditions and diversity, the characteristics that make cities so dynamic and attractive.
Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal was one of the most important industrial waterways in the U.S for over 150 years.
As luxury apartments replace factories and the original residents are forced to move out, Gowanus area is losing its creative energy and cultural diversity.
Integrating a sewage treatment plant and a sanctuary, this project preserves the neighborhood’s patchwork charm and provides public space that welcomes all community members.
